Group Ride - Building Base

Eight riders showed up for the first day of March ride. Met at Cup of Joe - Kat was late - thanks for waiting everyone. Jeremy F, Ron, Pete, Paul, John, Jeff K, Robert decided to head east as the SE winds were kicking up.

Rolling out of town - Robert & Pete, Jeff K, Jeremy and Ron kept things pretty calm.
John and Kat - heading the roll out - sprints for the stop sign ahead were just about to begin.

First we had to get out of the icey rutted road that John led us on in the North Cedar area.

IF you stayed on the mainly traveled roads - the conditions were MUCH better that what you see here. John was talented taking the shot over the shoulder while dodging the icy ruts.On to clear surfaces again - Kat, Jeff K, Pete, Jeremy and Paul I think bringing up the end. Headed out to Big Woods Road and then took Dunkerton Road east. Jeremy and Ron threw down a few sprints and then they left us at Wagner Road to do laps on the Finchford circuit - getting ready for the Finchford Roubaix April 13th - see flyer link on the left. The rest of us continued east towards Dunkerton when Mr. Jeff Klein got his miles in and turned to home.

County snowplows hard at work - some big snow still to move. All was good going into the headwind and riding sort of tempo for the most part the rest of the way into Dunkerton. Then - warmed up and headed south to the dreaded gravel road. What - leave a perfectly good dry road for ice, snow, mud? It was all John's idea - so we are doing this because?? Only wiped out once - and accumulated lots of nice mud - a new one for me.
My Shoes - great - mud spray over the body and on the body. Only thing good about this leg of the ride was the great tail-wind.Finally hit some pavement - E. Donald back into Waterloo. But Kat had the grit plastered on the back side and in the - Pony Tail - one reason to tuck it all under. Note Robert - pretty clean - that's what fenders will do for you. Thinking about some for myself.

Paul in fine form - great riding today - Pizza at Dunkerton - way to go. Kat got her Pork Fritter - last one again I think and she didn't share either - again.
Back into Waterloo, Robert departed and the rest of us made our way to CF - warmer and sunnier skies - a great ride. Pete was in awesome form on his Mtn Bike as well.
Finished up the day with a bike fit at the shop by Clay Bertram - knows his stuff - made some adjustments to increase efficiency in energy transfer on 3 of my bikes. Will test it out on the Cross bike Sunday. If you are interested - planning on a group ride again - Sunday morning, 10:00 am meet at Cup of Joe. We will NOT be on gravel folks - already agreed - so come on out before the rain and the next snow storm - see you there.
