Lost Island Youth Tri: BikeTech Service Work

Last Saturday (8/16) was a fine morning for Bike Tech Racing volunteers Mike J, Amy J, Chris C, John A and Kat P to help out with fellow team-mate and team sponsor Jeff Smith's Youth Tri held at the Lost Island Waterpark in Waterloo. I believe it was the second year for the event with 65+ participants this year in dry sunny conditions - a big improvement over last year's stormy deluge.
Mike, Amy (in the 'Official Vest') and Chris along with other volunteers getting themselves organized.
The event is about to start with the swim leg taking place in the 'wave pool.' Yours truly was stationed in a transition area as the competitors left the water and moved out of the water park and outside to the bike segment.

Chris C rolling in at the end of the event with race director Jeff Smith in the center of the pic - a good job by all - and how nice to see our fellow team-mate James W. who was there supporting his oldest daughter - who competed quite well - a very good thing for a 9th place finish while scoring some new socks for both father and daughter.Volunteer gathering re-cap Mike, John and Amy - Mike is over dressed I think - still thinking about that cold rain in Leadville perhaps.... He and Amy were getting ready to head Des Moines to sample the foods on a stick at the Iowa State Fair - - you know... prep for the IA Games RR being held on Sunday (Pics will be posted soon of that event).Speaking of food... saw this great fellow trying to hide a very luscious cinnamon roll behind his back - Jeff Smith's father - another fine rider/racer - go ahead - indulge - always a pleasure to meet up with you again.

  1. What fun it was to be a part of all that youth activity. It was interesting to see the very wide range of abilities - kids who were really going after it and others who were just having a good time "spinning"
