Gravel Training: LT100

Saturday found 4 of 6 Leadville racers gearing up for some gravel. Pete, Paul and Kat joined Mike for his prescribed training plan: 3 hrs of gravel at a steady watt output - something like 215(?)....

Headed out of town on W12th with a SSE wind assisting.Mike all dialed in and keeping to the coach's plan. Keeping it at tempo on the flats, kicking it up for the downhills and staying in the zone for the uphills. It works. An interesting ride - controlled - but a good workout.

Took 12th street gravel west - to T55 - south and then at the Hwy57 curve took 110th street west to L Ave and back to M Ave and north into Parkersburg. Pit stop for Kat at the new Kwik Star - which is busy! Good to see the action and the town rebuilding.

Gravel was in pretty good shape overall. Still hard-packed - frost hasn't let go yet.

Kat practicing taking the pictures in motion.

We lost Paul on the west-ward trek to Parkersburg, but as we headed north out of town after Kat's pit stop - who do we see up ahead - Paul! Got this shot as we caught up with him on 310th street heading east. Finished up the 3Hr+ 50+ miles of gravel taking us to Finchford - and Ford Road back to CF. Thanks Mike, Pete and Paul for a good morning of Iowa gravel.

A great training ride - and another one for Sunday Morning if you are so inclined - 9:30 at Joe's - X bikes. No one took up the offer to race in Mitchellville for the last of the All9Yards gravel series so - getting some more local gravel in.

  1. That wattage zone workout will make you fast by August. You'll really be flying when your coach kicks the wattage up another 50 watts.

  2. Yep it does. Tough to ride with others that may not understand all of it. 200 watts for 3 hrs seems easy but trust me the 3rd hour has the legs talking to ya.

It also seems low compared to threshold power of 284. By Aug coach will have me riding there and yes it will be flying.
