Eight of us headed out - Mike J. Pete, Kat, John, Doug K. Super Saul, Paul, and Robert suited up for a sunny cool ride on gravel.

The route posted below had us head north on Center Street to get out of town. John and Mike with his LT100 back pack lead us out.

Pete and Paul behind the camera rolling out of town. Both were on their mountain bikes and were riding strong.

Hit the gravel and conditions were the best as you can see - hard packed and dry. Heading for Denver.
Shot of the snow pack still along the roads - higher than we are. Mike with his backpack created a very nice draft which came in very handy all day.
Somewhere in the Denver Hills I think - group broke apart a bit for nature calls.

Super Saul's training plan for the day was 92 miles - he got that and more by the day's end. Pete sitting up as we cruise into Denver - 1/4 done.
After leaving Denver stopped for a consult with the MAP - Mike - ride director set up a really great course! Well Done. Now where is Oelwein?
Oelwein - 1/2 way point and lunch - had to choke it down fast - only a 10 min break - but had time to buy the lottery ticket. Doug opted for Subway healthy goodness while the rest of us sampled the Kwik Star menu. No tenderloins though.
Cruising out of Oelwein and a cross/head wind heading west. We were hoping for the wind to shift out of the east as forecasted but it was not to be.
Amish country - passed this wagon being pulled by horses - could've used some of that horsepower myself. John pictured in front had a very fine day of riding - looks like the training is on target.
Finally - Dunkerton - quick stop and we are down to 6 - Paul and Doug finished on their own.
Down to three - Robert headed back to Waterloo and Pete and Super Ron Saul opted not to take the final few miles of gravel - Mike had to stick to plan - must get 100 on gravel. Mission accomplished! This Kat logged 106 for day.
Great ride today everyone - can't wait for the next Hundy - Hey Chris C. - looked for you - saw tire tracks - but to no avail - maybe next time.If you want more - hard surfaces only ride Sunday - Carey is ride director for the day - Start 10:30 at Cup of Joe. See you there.

Thanks KAT for the great write up!
ReplyDeleteI had a great time today and thanks to all for sharing the pain.
What a ride. See you all in April - or way before.
ReplyDeleteNice job - Kat.
John

ReplyDeleteThat's a good solid day.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great ride. You make it look warm.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you all for a great ride. Yup, those were my tracks. I wasn't sure which way you would come out of Dunkerton - I made it that far and think I only missed you by a few minutes. The gravel was in great shape! Who'd have thought?
