JINGLE CROSS ROCKS SUNDAY

Big crowds showed up for the final day of
Jingle Cross 2010
From the hillside of Mt Krumpet the spectators can see 90% if the action.
Even the Grinch showed up to harass the racers in the kids events.
The Grinch is this guy
John Meehan
He is also the guy who thought up this craziness in 2004
and now it is a UCI Cat I event with the largest prize list of any race in the US.
He also has been known to race three races per day of Jingle Cross
The Pit Bikes of the # one cross team in the country
Lining up for the for the 55+ Master's event
Including Landon, Kathleen, John and Richard
Mark Beatty was ready for some fast action, but had a mechanical during warm up
and was unable to start his race. Sunday's course initially had racers coming down Mt. Krumpet with a triple zig-zag. It was deemed too icy-dicey for the early races (10:00 start for M55+) so the race stayed on the lower sections - fast and flat for the majority of the course.
Landon Beachy had the race of the day for the Twisted Spokes
His 4th place finish got him "in the money."

Richard is off to a good start. The Course never got really muddy and with the sun and wind - conditions were prime!
The enthusiastic Richard Gilmore
always ready to race.
produced an 8th place in 55+ Cat
Our pictures show individuals
but really there were big groups of racers and spectators. John coming through the finish area heading to the whirly-gig.
We always have barriers to run and jump
John placed 6th in the 55+ Group

And difficult hill to run up
It is all a part of the fun and challenge. So this is the Up part - steep short hill then onto an off-camber muddy rutted down hill on the way to the Fly-Over. This is Kat in her second race of the day - feeling the effort.

WHAT
Is this a bike race or what?
!!OR WHAT!!
regardless of the weather conditions
cross racers are having fun.

Steps up and ramp down.
Kat got a 6th place in the Women's 35+
and 9th place in the Men's 55+. Five races in 3 days - what a workout.
Our friend and former training partner and Europa Wrench Lee-Socks-Venteicher
Steve Bullerman had his best season ever - winning two different series
and racing strong at the Rock
For most of us Jingle Cross marks the end of the racing season
Time to start thinking about goals and training plans for 2011 - think about making plans for Madison, WI - Cross Nationals January 2012 on your list!
