The Bee's Knees

I celebrated Columbus Day this year with a total knee replacement.  Things are progressing well with physical therapy and sleep walking on crutches.

I forced them to take some pictures during the procedure - it's rather remarkable how something amazingly hi-tech can at once be medieval.  You can see pictures here if you'd like, but "viewer discretion is advised."

Follow up with the doc isn't until the 31st, so I really won't know a whole more until then.  Fortunately the good folk at work encouraged me to get this done sooner rather than later, and I look forward to the next 20+ years being free of pain.  At least THAT kind of pain.

And the best part is how all the doctors keep telling me that biking is the best thing for it and I won't wear out the new knee by riding on it.  Jumping and running, yeah that will loosen things quicker than normal, but biking is all good.

  1. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
Do you know what caused the knee to wear out? At least biking is good.

  2. When we were living in exile in WI I got in a pretty serious accident while bringing the band & choir kids home from a gig in Disney World. Cooked my left knee & right ankle. It's been fix fix fix ever since.
