WATERWORKS

TWISTED SPOKES headed to the famed Waterworks Park Crit last Saturday the 12th of May - hosted by Zealous Racing. A top notch event and glad to have it back after an hiatus. If you like it fast and flat - this the race for you.  The 1.5ish mile course is smooth and fast with just a couple of turns to navigate.  The wind made for some interesting attack points so you had to be Ready.

The Team's Great Junior Racer - Leaf Lujan from West Union, IA has been having a stellar spring racing with 1st place podium finishes consistently. Will look forward to seeing him at the Memorial Day Races.

Here he his leading the contenders - doing all the work - which he kept up for most of all the race.

At race end - Leaf really commanded the finish sprinting away from the contenders handily for the Win.

Sure is a lot of fun and really an honor to support and share the races with the up and coming young as well as the very fine experienced racers.  Nothing better.  What a day for racing!

Lining up for the Men's Master's races - the 40s and 50s together.  John Adamson in fine form and getting ready.

And they are Off - A big group of amazing racers - many of them will race again in the Pro 123's a bit later. So you Know what the caliber of racing is.

Two to go and the main group is still together - get yourself ready.  Which Adamson did - finishing the Master's 50+ race in 5th place and in the $$.  Excellent racing for this fine teammate who is still working on managing respiratory challenges.  A much better spring this year than in 2011.  Onward.

And the Girl  Kat - getting ready.  Sort of a challenge to get to the races 4 hours before your race starts.  What do you do - how do you eat and keep drinking and Stay Warm?  Note Kat had everything on that she brought - thinking it would be warmer down south.  Not Really.  But the Day really did Warm up nicely.

The Women's Open race had a lot of Pink in the line up.  Strategy was to try to stick with the awesome Dee Mable and hang on!  The Velo Rosa gals raced hard and team tactics were definitely in play. Kat managed to stay up front heeding the advice from the coach.  Get up there and use the fitness.

Every lap had the lead group working for positions and getting ready for any attacks which would come at the corner sections going into the headwinds.  A great action shot done by John A. This was somewhere in the middle of the race. Coaching was right on and kept to the front as well as could be.  Last lap had 6 of us corning into the sprint finish.

Kat stuck with the lead group of 6 to finish 6th. Video of the finish of the Women's Open - Good enough for a payout.  Need to work on that Sprint.  Hit some HR #'s she hasn't seen in a while if ever.  The training is good.  A great day of racing and wonderful to share it with our teammates.
